Please, someone divert my attention from the Cubs
No team can be this bad. Luckily, there is more to life than baseball (not really, but I don't want to be the cliche from Fever Pitch); in fact, life existed before baseball.
Speaking of life before baseball (see that? that's a segue), over at jamierieger.com there is a new article up titled A Brief History of the Ancient World, Part I. It has the benefit of being very informative while at the same time being real damn funny. If you like this blog (and I know at least 3 or 4 people do) you will most certainly also like that article unless you really are only interested in baseball (which I can understand).
So check it out and once you've read it get back to me on whether it was a good thing or a bad thing that life evolved from pond scum to eventually produce a team as bad as the Cubs (see? I tied it all back together).

I cannot thank you enough for A Brief History of the Ancient World, Part I.
I just came home from the school carnival (Charlie won the prize for best artist in the first grade), and I was resigned to an evening of no baseball, no Baseball Tonight, no SportsCenter . . . and I was a bit at a loss as to what to do with my time.

My tender psyche cannot take much more of . . . that team right now.
I am, however, going to a Kane County Cougars game on Sunday, which is flat-out the best baseball entertainment to be had in the greater Chicagoland area. I strongly recommend checking out a game or ten this summer.
In fact, we should plan a little Cubs Blog Army get-together out there this year. What do you say?

i agree. that's a great read. the mere mention of Stephen Jay Gould ties the article back to baseball. old steve was a huge yankees fan ...
Aurora is right by where I work. Maybe the wife and I can meet up with whomever wants to go and take in a night game.
