Scientists discovery world's smallest fish

First off, how do they know that it's the world's smallest fish? Because I'm sure that at one time there was another fish that was thought to be the smallest fish before this little usurper came along. Maybe they should just hedge their bets and go with: "Very small fish found." Scientists always want their things to be the smallest. From the article:
Mature females of the Paedocypris progenetica, a member of the carp family, only grow to 7.9 millimeters (0.31 inches) and the males have enlarged pelvic fins and exceptionally large muscles that may be used to grasp the females during copulation, researchers wrote in the Proceedings of the Royal Society, published Wednesday by the Royal Society in London.
Damn. One usually has to pay for talk like that.

This never would have happened if JP2 were still around. Get with it, Vatican!

And finally, the third (fourth?) Goatrider of the Apocalypse, Bob, has written an excellent piece, taking a look at next year's pitching staff. Actually, there's lots of good stuff over there. Check it out.

Jason-
Hmmm....world's smalles fish. Not unlike physicists claiming to have found the smallest particle. Little do they know that I have been hording an even smaller one. I'm just waiting for the market on this little beauty to go up...just like my Mick Kelleher baseball card!

Like you said, there had to have been a "world's smallest fish" before they discovered this one. What about all those new species they just found in New Guinea? There could always be something new out there.

BTW: I just moved into my own domain, and off blogspot. Can you please update the Holstein Grove link in "bad guys" to "http://www.wisgrove.com/"? Thanks much!

absolutely, although it will have to wait until later in the month when I have a few minutes.
